JENNIFER M. JOAQUIN
PRACTICE AREAS
Ms. Joaquin's practice at Kenney & Markowitz LLP, is largely focused on employment litigation and counseling. However, she also handles civil litigation, with an emphasis on aviation and products liability.
EXPERIENCE
Since joining Kenney & Markowitz LLP in 2000, Ms. Joaquin has participated in several trials in state and federal court. Her trial experience has largely revolved around employment litigation, including cases brought for retaliation, racial and sexual harassment and discrimination, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations. Ms. Joaquin has taken and defended hundreds of depositions, and regularly handles arbitrations, mediations, and settlement conferences. In addition, Ms. Joaquin has successfully prepared and argued numerous summary judgment motions, demurrers and motions to dismiss. She has also prepared appellate briefs, both for clients responding to appeals and less often, those appealing judgments. Additionally, Ms. Joaquin has argued before the California Court of Appeal.
In addition to her litigation work, Ms. Joaquin regularly counsels corporations and public entities on employment matters. Her counseling experience includes addressing issues such as discipline and termination, sexual and racial harassment investigations, wage and hour issues, workforce reductions, ADA compliance, and leave issues under state and federal law. Ms. Joaquin regularly conducts sexual harassment prevention trainings and assists employers in implementing effective policies and procedures addressing harassment, discrimination, drug testing, and workplace violence. Ms. Joaquin enjoys providing seminars and training sessions to her clients and local organizations. Her most recent presentations include “Termination Risk Management: How to Fire an Employee Without Getting Sued” and “Claims Triage.”
EDUCATION
Ms. Joaquin received her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1998. While at Hastings, Ms. Joaquin was active in student government. She also externed for the Honorable Paul H. Alvarado of the San Francisco Superior Court. In 1993, Ms. Joaquin received her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego, where she graduated with honors.

Ms. Joaquin is admitted to practice in all California courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court - Northern District and Central District.
ACTIVITIES
Ms. Joaquin is a member of the State Bar of California, the Bar Association of San Francisco, International Aviation Women's Association ("IAWA"), the Financial Women’s Association (“FWA”) and the Northern California Human Resource Association, (“NCHRA”). She is on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Chapter of the NCHRA. Ms. Joaquin is an active mentor to Hastings students through the Hastings Alumni Mentor Program and regularly assists Hastings Career Services by conducting mock interviews.
